Betstopper : No more gambling for children.
The Canadian firm Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation is launching Betstopper a software which blocks access to gambling websites to your children.
I think the best way to desribe the necessity of this software is in their home page : (www.betsopper.ca) :
- Kids don’t belong on online gambling websites – it’s that simple. And ensuring that your kids aren’t exposed to them is as simple as installing BetStopper on your computer. BetStopper blocks access to Internet gambling sites and content, preventing your kids from venturing where they don’t belong. You’ll never know everything your kids are doing online, but with BetStopper, you can know what they’re not doing.
The software is free and seems to have good feedbacks ….
Pilot-tested by more than 250 families in Nova Scotia, the software was provided to these families for free by NSGC as part of its commitment to youth gambling prevention. Results from the pilot test were extremely positive:
- 80% found the software easy to use
- 88% say they are more aware of the risks of online youth gambling
- 78% were motivated to talk to their children about the risks of online gambling
- 92% think BetStopper is an effective youth gambling prevention tool
- 99% believe it is important that NSGC make the software available to Nova Scotian families

$2.4 million strategy to help stop serious gambling problems
The Australian state of New South Wales announced Wednesday that it will launch a three-year $2.4 million strategy to help stop serious gambling problems from developing and devastating people and their families.
As part of the proposal, all problem gambling counselling services in the state will come under a new name and logo, Gambling Help.
“The Rees Government is committed to tackling problem gambling early, before problems worsen, and this $2.4 million investment is a key part of those efforts. For example, right now the Rees Government funds 43 problem gambling counselling services in more than 200 places across NSW, as well as the G-Line phone service and a range of support materials online and they all have different names.[...]
